ResArch Interiors : Sustainably Sourcing Natural Fibers
The AIANY Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN) is focusing on sustainable sourcing of materials for residential interior furnishings, particularly addressing the carbon footprint of textiles. The design industry, including textiles, is a major contributor to CO2 emissions, with impacts from production, transportation, and waste. As awareness grows, designers are shifting toward responsibly sourced products, including natural fibers like flax, cotton, wool, and linen, which have a smaller carbon footprint and contribute to soil health and the circular economy. Experts will discuss metrics for sourcing sustainable products, measuring fabric carbon footprints, the carbon storage potential of natural fibers, and the role of technology and regulation in reducing emissions.
