2022 NYTM Carbon Farm Tour Panel Discussion
The Carbon Farm Tour is an event organized by the New York Textile Lab and the Carbon Farm Network as part of their mission to promote sustainable and regenerative practices in the textile industry.
It is an opportunity to explore and showcase carbon farming practices that contribute to climate-beneficial fiber production. These practices emphasize environmental stewardship, including carbon sequestration through methods like rotational grazing and sustainable land management.
The tour also serves as a platform for connecting designers, farmers, and other stakeholders. It highlights the importance of creating deep value in the production chain, from sourcing raw fibers to crafting finished goods, and focuses on collaborative and local approaches to textile production. Through this experience, participants gain a deeper understanding of how sustainable practices can address climate change and reshape textile systems.
In this panel discussion for our 2022 Carbon Farm Tour we focus on sustainability in the fashion and textile industries. The event explored innovative approaches to reshaping textile systems, promoting climate-beneficial practices, and addressing issues like waste and overproduction. The panel discusses topics such as legislative initiatives, degrowth strategies, certifications, and the importance of collaborative approaches to creating systemic changes in the fashion industry.
