Fiber producers who are interested in assessing climate beneficial practices on their farm and looking to connect with climate conscious textile and clothing designers, can apply for the development of a Carbon Farm Plan.

Carbon Farming is the adoption and implementation of agricultural practices intended to reduce, sequester, and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions on farms. In addition, climate beneficial practices associated with working agricultural lands can provide additional benefits to farms by improving water quality, increasing profitability, promoting community relations, reducing energy use and adapting to climate change and extreme weather events.

Carbon Farm Plans are developed to reflect the unique nature of each of farm partners and to address the specific needs of their agricultural operations. A CFP will develop and implement real, permanent and verifiable strategies to increase carbon sequestration and reduce GHG production. This voluntary process is self-driven by our farm partners who are encouraged to work at their own pace and create a plan that reflects their priorities and values. The Carbon Farm Network will provide guidance and technical assistance in developing a Carbon Farm Plan and will support the planning and implementation of climate beneficial conservation practices. GHG reductions and carbon sequestration will be determined using USDA’s COMET-Farm Carbon and GHG Accounting System. CFPs are reviewed and administered by the Carbon Farm Network’s Agricultural Planner and the fiber is verified Climate Beneficial through the Fibershed Affiliate Program.
